NATIONAL WORKSHOPS
Join the Journey and co-create
the future of European democracy!
Across 19 countries, the National Workshops were held during March and April 2026, bringing together almost 600 young people from diverse backgrounds.
Each workshop followed an experimental co-creation workflow developed by the YouthDecide 2040 research team during the Regional Workshops, tested with participants and refined ahead of the national events. Through discussions, creative exercises and reflection sessions, participants explored possible democratic futures through a foresight practice workshop.
The workshops served two complementary purposes: gathering insights for the YouthDecide 2040 research process and creating an engaging space where young people could exchange perspectives, connect with others and imagine preferred futures together.
The scenarios developed across the 19 countries will now inform the next step of the project Journey: the Online Consultation, opening the conversation to an even wider community of young people.

Choosing Lecce as the location for this workshop was not random, but a deliberate decision. There has been an effort to move away from major capitals and decentralise these democratic conversations as much as possible. In this case, the city of Lecce — in the south of Italy, in the region of Puglia — became the meeting point for young people from across the country to reflect on democracy in a place where deliberative processes of this kind do not often happen.
